Why the first side wins more often
After the joker is shown, 51 cards are left and exactly three of them match its rank. Cards go out one at a time, first to one side, then the other. Whichever side receives card number one also receives cards three, five, seven and so on — every odd-numbered card.
The first matching card is a little more likely to turn up early than late, simply because there are three of them in the deck. So the odd positions, taken together, carry slightly more of the probability. Worked out exactly:
| Bet | Wins | Fair payout |
|---|---|---|
| Side that gets the first card | 51.50% | 0.942 to 1 |
| The other side | 48.50% | 1.062 to 1 |
That 3-point gap is the whole reason Andar Bahar tables set different payouts for the two sides. It does not matter whether the first card goes to Andar or Bahar at your table — the advantage follows the first card, not the name of the pile.
What common payouts cost you
Here is the long-run edge for a few payout rules you will meet. A negative number is what the player gives up on average for every rupee bet.
| Payout rule | First-card side | Other side |
|---|---|---|
| 0.9 to 1 / 1 to 1 | −2.15% | −3.00% |
| 0.9 to 1 / 0.95 to 1 | −2.15% | −5.43% |
| 0.9 to 1 / 0.9 to 1 | −2.15% | −7.85% |
| 1 to 1 / 1 to 1 | +3.00% | −3.00% |
The most common rule, 0.9 to 1 on the first-card side and even money on the other, costs about 2.1% and 3.0% respectively. Even money on both sides would hand the first-card side a 3% advantage, which is why you will not find it.
How long does a round last?
On average the matching card is the 13th card dealt. Half of all rounds are over by card 11, about one round in 17 ends on the very first card (5.9%), and very long rounds are rare. Many tables offer side bets on how many cards it takes; these are the exact chances:
| Match on card | Chance | Fair payout |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | 27.11% | 2.69 to 1 |
| 6–10 | 21.70% | 3.61 to 1 |
| 11–15 | 16.90% | 4.92 to 1 |
| 16–25 | 21.80% | 3.59 to 1 |
| 26–30 | 6.10% | 15.40 to 1 |
| 31–35 | 3.70% | 26.05 to 1 |
| 36–40 | 1.90% | 51.72 to 1 |
| 41–49 | 0.79% | 125.21 to 1 |
To judge a side bet, compare the payout on your table with the fair payout in the last column. If the table pays 2.5 to 1 on cards 1–5, for example, the edge is −5.13%; at 2 to 1 it drops to −18.68%, several times worse than the main bets. The checker above does this sum for any range.
What the maths cannot change
Every card comes from a shuffled deck, so past rounds tell you nothing about the next one. A streak of five Andar wins does not make Bahar “due”. Doubling after a loss does not change the odds either; it only makes the losing streaks more expensive. Pick a bet with a small edge, keep the stake steady, and stop at the limit you set before you started.
Rounds are fast, so it is easy to play more than you planned. Our Responsible Gaming page shows how to set deposit limits in the app. When you are ready to play, the Spin777 Andar Bahar table shows its payouts on screen — type them into the checker first.
How we calculated these numbers
No simulation is involved. With 51 cards left and three matches among them, the chance that the first match is card k equals the number of ways to place the other two matches after k, divided by all the ways to place three matches: C(51−k, 2) ÷ C(51, 3). Adding the odd positions gives the first-card side's 51.50%. The same formula runs the checker on this page.

Frequently asked questions
Which side wins more in Andar Bahar?
The side that receives the first card after the joker wins about 51.5% of rounds; the other side wins about 48.5%. That is why many tables pay that first side a little less, such as 0.9 to 1.
How many cards are dealt in a round of Andar Bahar?
On average the match is the 13th card dealt. Half of all rounds are decided by the 11th card, and about 1 round in 17 ends on the very first card.
Does the joker card colour or suit change the odds?
No. Only the rank matters: three cards of the same rank are left in the 51-card deck, wherever they are. Some tables use the joker to decide which side gets the first card, but the 51.5% belongs to whichever side that is.
Is there a strategy that beats Andar Bahar?
No. Every card is dealt from a shuffled deck, so no betting pattern changes the odds. What you can control is the bet you choose: compare its payout with the fair payout on this page.
