Baccarat is one of the simplest casino card games to play. You do not make decisions during the hand — you only choose whether to back the Player, the Banker or a Tie.
What makes Baccarat different
Baccarat is popular with high-rollers for a simple reason: the house edge is low. On a standard table the Banker bet carries roughly a 1.06% edge, the Player bet about 1.24%, while the Tie bet — paying 8 to 1 — is around 14%.
That is why Banker wins usually pay slightly less than even money: a commission, often 5%, is taken from them. Knowing these numbers is the closest thing baccarat has to a strategy.

Frequently asked questions
Why does a Banker win pay less than 1:1?
The Banker hand wins slightly more often, so tables take a small commission on Banker wins to balance it.
